Have you ever walked into a place and instantly felt at home, like you belonged there? Well, that’s exactly how I felt walking round Be:FIT London (now called Hearst Live) – “a community of like-minded, health and fitness-conscious women,” who run amazing yearly events.
I attended London’s Be:FIT event in 2017 and then again in 2018, but this most recent event really stood out to me as a vital date for the diary I’d recommend to any females interested in health, fitness and wellness.
It was full of both pre-bookable and walk-in workout and yoga classes, mindfulness sessions, nutrition talks with leading industry experts, an abundance of healthy snacks to sample from an array of cool brands, and opportunities to be sprinkled in glitter and have your hair braided! My shoulder actually hurt from carrying all the free samples I’d been given home with me…such a hard life, I know!!
That’s not all…for the first time, on the opening Friday night, Ministry Does Fitness ran a club-style workout session with DJs and a confetti canon! Prosecco flowed and girls gathered as both old and new friends – the perfect networking and socializing event for meeting and mingling with inspirational girls of similar interests.
I spent the whole weekend wearing three new outfits I had been sent from Zakti Active. Their leggings are honestly some of the most comfortable and flattering workout leggings I’ve ever worn, and you know I’m allllll about that comfort! I was really impressed with the range of outfits they sell and the fact that they have lots of t-shirts and vest tops available too. I often find that activewear sets only come with matching leggings and sports bras, and when I workout alone I usually like to cover up a little so I can just get on with my session without everything on show, and also because I often go to the gym after dinner, so feel a little bloated!
Out of the many other classes on offer, on the Saturday I then took part in a fantastic vinyasa yoga flow with the hilarious Adam Husler, enlisted in a squat competition in return for a slice of gluten-free pizza (proving I’ll do anything for food) and experienced a dynamic bodyweight Pilates session with the lovely Ten Health Fitness, which was a lot harder than I was expecting…in a good way, of course! On Sunday I tried buti yoga for the first time (pronounced ‘booty’ yoga) and learnt that A) its name has nothing to do with building your booty, although I’m sure it helps! And B) it is sooo much fun!! Think primal movement – meets tribal dance – meets yoga connecting you to the earth, your soul and those around you! I can’t wait to do more buti yoga and I’d really encourage you to try it, too!
For your own experience of Be:FIT, your chance to try new things, meet new friends and even mingle with your favourite health and fitness stars, head to their next event in Islington, London, from May 3rd – 5th 2019. You can find more information, here.
Thank you also to the girls at AK Fit Club for holding me up for so long in the opening photo (I got up there and then we realized no one had a phone or camera ready, oops)!
Here’s me feeling on a high and full of zest after I got home from the 3-day event and scooped Quentin up all lovingly. He didn’t seem too impressed…
A: Not to start with. I had no connections to the wellness space or the events industry whatsoever when first starting out. I just put myself out there as much as possible and tried to build my own contacts.

Hi Merrick! That’s great!! I did the same. Moving around lots, you learn to put yourself out there and build your dream community in each place 🙂
